UQ’s Women’s Badminton team have finished as proud runners-up at the 2025 UniSport Nationals, held on the Gold Coast from September 29 to October 3. After an undefeated run through the round robin stage, the team fought their way into the finals, ultimately falling just short in a thrilling 2–3 loss to UNSW.
The week was a showcase of grit, teamwork, and the rewards of disciplined preparation. Each day presented new challenges, but the UQ women rose to the occasion, pushing through tight matches with composure and belief. Their semi-final performance showed the same resilience that’s become a hallmark of the squad this year, and though they narrowly missed gold, their silver medal reflects a campaign to be proud of.
YS Badminton is honoured to have supported Team UQ for the third consecutive year as a proud sponsor, and to have provided training and coaching throughout this past term in the lead-up to Nationals. Seeing the development, commitment, and unity of the team translate into success on court has been incredibly rewarding for us here at YS Badminton. This result is a testament to months of joint effort and the strong culture built within the team.
The UQ Men’s team also showed tremendous fight during the tournament, taking on tough opponents with determination and heart. While a podium finish eluded them this time, they leave the Gold Coast having gained invaluable experience.
The UQ team carried themselves with class throughout the competition. Their efforts on and off court have set a high standard, and the experience gained this week will no doubt fuel their ambitions for the future.
Congratulations to all players, coaches, and supporters — we at YS Badminton are incredibly proud to stand alongside you on this journey. Onwards and upwards!
