YS Badminton was proud to co-organise the 2026 Cathay Cup Fujian Association Team Badminton Championship on Saturday, 15 August 2026, alongside the Fujian Association (Queensland) Inc.
Held at Sky Badminton, the Cathay Cup brought players together for a full day of competitive team badminton, with teams battling through the round-robin and knockout stages for the championship title.
The event was designed to offer something different from a traditional individual tournament, placing an emphasis on teamwork, strategy and team spirit. Each team consisted of two male players and one female player, competing across two mixed doubles matches and one men’s doubles match.
A Thrilling Final
The championship final delivered exactly the kind of contest the Cathay Cup was built for.
Team Duck Duck Goose were crowned the 2026 Cathay Cup champions after a thrilling three-match battle against Team AEW. The final went down to the deciding match, with Duck Duck Goose eventually securing the championship after a hard-fought 21–15, 20–21, 21–19 result.
Both teams showed tremendous composure and determination throughout the final, with momentum shifting from one side to the other. The deciding game went right down to the wire, providing a fitting conclusion to an exciting day of team badminton.
Congratulations to Team Duck Duck Goose on taking home the championship, and to Team AEW on an outstanding runner-up finish.
More Than Just Competition
While the results were an important part of the day, the Cathay Cup was about more than winning and losing.
Throughout the tournament, the venue was filled with team celebrations, encouragement from teammates and supporters, post-match handshakes and plenty of memorable moments on and off the court. The team format created an atmosphere where every match mattered, with players supporting one another and fighting for every point on behalf of their team.
For YS Badminton, being involved in the organisation of the event was another opportunity to contribute to the wider badminton community in Brisbane and create competitive events where players can come together, compete and enjoy the sport.
